The year of METAL RITES is speeding towards a rapid conclusion!
2011 has been a total runaway so far with Mind Assault members only just managing to keep up… although our lack of website updates tell that we’ve left a few loose ends along the way. Oops! The band has got around, however, after we released our 6-track free download EP “Metal Rites” in February. We’ve performed at Thornfest as a follow-up to our 2010 Oppikoppi performance in the Northern parts of the country, and then returned to Cape Town to launch “Metal Rites” to an awesome crowd at Ramfest. Year after year we’ve just gotten more support at this Cape Town festival and the momentum has just kept them inviting us back for five consecutive years – so for this we salute our supporters for keeping us in the game!
We’re very pleased that reviews of “Metal Rites” have been coming in from all over the globe and all have been good. This proves to us that we’ve made a BIG improvement of recording techniques since the release of Stigma in 2008. This gives us the confidence to now go and invest in another full length album, so keep your eyes and ears open for news on this.
The rest of the year so far we have made a small return to the club circuit to further promote Metal Rites to those who could not make it to the big festivals. We made inroads to places like Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Worcester, Centurion, Edenvale, and we even went to Bloemfontien for the first time where we got the surprise of our lives with such warm welcome. Sadly, although half the band made it all the way to Port Elizabeth, we had to cancel that show last minute owing to a family tragedy that morning which resulted in other members turning back home. We owe the Port Elizabeth guys big time for letting them down, but the people were very understanding and a good party was still had by the members who were there.
The other upset to our year so far has been losing our band rehearsal room of almost 5 years which was a major setback. Luckily we’ve found a new room now and are in the process of renovating it to be suitable for not only our practicing, but also to do recording for our next album for which writing has already begun. This might take some time still, so please be patient.
As for the rest of 2011, we are set to play a Halloween show at our beloved hometown drinking hole, The Nameless Pub, on 29 October in Somerset West. Then the last BIG show for the year will be a Mind Assault performance at the 10th Anniversary of Whiplash Festival – where Mind Assault appears for our seventh consecutive year \m/
Plans which are still to be confirmed is another Punk vs. Metal mini-tour, also in December, and then also there are whispers in the wind of Mind Assault possibly appearing at Rock The River New Years Festival.
